Zbigniew Bzdak left his native Poland in 1979 to travel and explore Latin American rivers. His photographs of the first kayaking team to successfully navigate the Amazon River were published by National Geographic, Outside, and were included in the book "Running The Amazon," published by Alfred A. Knopf. His photographic work has been published in many magazines worldwide.

In 1991, he won a Communication Arts Award for his photography in the book "Living in Wyoming, Settling for More," published by Rockridge Press Inc. In 1993 his photographs illustrated the Chicago guidebook, published by Compass American Guides. More recently, he has been involved with documenting the Huaorani tribe in the Amazon region of Ecuador.
